Enhancing Safety and Reliability with a Fiber-Optic Gas Monitoring System
**Problem**
Typical gas monitoring systems, which rely on Dupline / IMAC technology, encounter several limitations. These included loss of precision during transmission, distance constraints, susceptibility to electromagnetic interference, and delays in transmitting data. These challenges compromise data reliability and increase maintenance costs, potentially posing safety risks in hazardous environments.
**Solution**
In response to these challenges, EEHA Automation assisted our Client in upgrading to a fiber-optic-based monitoring solution. By integrating Intrinsically Safe Modbus Gateways and Fibre Media Converters, we achieved superior data transmission over greater distances, free from the interference issues that plague Dupline / IMAC systems. This upgrade markedly enhances the system’s reliability and safety, ensuring compliance with industry standards for hazardous locations.
**Result** The shift to a fiber-optic gas monitoring system has yielded improvements in data integrity and system reliability. Dual redundant Surface Communications allows for in situ maintenance tasks and upgrades to be performed online. This solution seamlessly integrated with our Clients existing infrastructure, reduced maintenance needs, and enhanced real-time monitoring capabilities. Consequently, the facility has experienced fewer false power trips, improved safety compliance, and increased confidence in the system among operators and stakeholders.
